We all have our own art inspirations, but there are some works of art that are just unarguably inspirational for artists the world over. Here are our top five inspirational masterpieces, that you have to see and where to find them.
Mona Lisa, Paris
One of the most famous pieces of art in the world. The Mona Lisa was painted by the equally famous and esteemed, Renaissance man, Leonardo Da Vinci. It’s believed the painting was the wife of the Florence merchant Francesco del Giocondo, but experts are still not 100% sure of who the mysterious woman is definitively.
Surprisingly small, the art work still attracts millions of art lovers to the Louvre Museum in Paris annually.
The Last Supper, Leonardo Da Vinci, Milan
Leonardo makes it to number two on the list as well. The Last Supper is not only a beautiful and expressive art piece, but it doesn’t even need a frame to hang. The art is part of a huge fresco, that has taken a lot of care and attention to keep in good condition over the years. It stands 15ft high and nearly 30ft wide.
The Kiss, Gustav Klimt, Vienna
The Kiss by Klimt is really a feast for the eyes. It’s a highly decorative art piece adorned with gold, silver and platinum leaf. The artwork is famous for its Nouveau style and hangs in the Osterreichsche Galerie Belvedere in Vienna.
This painting is one of my personal favourites.
The Birth of Venus, Sandro Botticelli, Florence
All of Botticelli’s paintings have an unmatchable beauty and flare, and The Birth of Venus is probably one of his most famous pieces. Dating back as far as 1485, the artwork’s popularity has only grown decade on decade.
The piece itself was commissioned by the very wealthy Medici family, which ruled Florence for centuries.
The Starry Night, Van Gogh, New York
If you want to visit the Dutch painters most famous pieces, you will have to visit the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The abstract piece is characterised by it’s broad brushstrokes and bright blue sky, with swirling yellow clouds above the horizon.
